Privacy Policy

Effective September 13, 2026

The short version: Stringed Theory analyzes microphone audio on your device. It does not save audio recordings, upload your sound, require an account, or include advertising or tracking.

Who this policy covers

This policy describes the Stringed Theory app for iPhone, iPad, and Mac, provided by Fuzzy Side Up Software, and support requests you send us about it. Contact us at fuzzysideupsoftware@gmail.com with privacy questions or deletion requests.

Microphone audio

The app requests microphone permission so it can identify pitch and show tuning readings. Audio is processed temporarily in memory on your device. Stringed Theory does not create saved audio recordings or send audio or pitch readings to Fuzzy Side Up Software or third parties. Temporary analysis buffers are reused during tuning; live readings are not kept as a history.

Presets and preferences

The app stores your tuning presets, string labels and target frequencies, selected display, virtual capo position, reference pitch, and input settings locally. These values provide the features you choose and restore your setup when you reopen the app. We cannot access them remotely. Stringed Theory does not implement cloud sync; your operating system may include local app data in device backups according to your backup settings.

No advertising, analytics, or tracking

The app contains no advertising or third-party analytics SDKs. It does not collect identifiers for tracking, access your contacts, photos or location, sell personal data, or share app audio or presets with third parties. No sign-in or developer-hosted account is needed.

Your privacy choices and deletion

You can revoke microphone permission at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone on iPhone or iPad, or System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone on Mac. Live tuning will stop working without microphone access. Quit the app to end its microphone use.

You can delete individual custom presets in Settings → Tunings, and change saved preferences in the app. Local data remains until you change or remove it. On iPhone and iPad, deleting the app removes its local app data; offloading it keeps that data. On Mac, deleting the app bundle may leave preferences or its sandbox container behind. Contact support for help removing the remaining local data. Manage backup copies separately through your operating system’s backup controls. There is no developer account or server copy of your presets for us to delete.

When you contact support

If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you include in the message or attachments. We use that information to respond, troubleshoot, and handle your request. Email is processed through our email provider, Google/Gmail, under its privacy and security terms; we do not use support messages for advertising or sell them. We retain correspondence while needed to resolve and follow up on your request, then delete it unless a legal obligation requires retention. You can request deletion using the contact address above; any required retention will be explained. Please avoid sending sensitive information that is not needed for support.

This website and Apple services

These pages do not use advertising cookies or analytics scripts. Our hosting provider, Vercel, processes ordinary web requests and may retain technical logs such as IP addresses and browser information to deliver and secure the site. Opening a website is separate from local microphone processing in the app. See Vercel’s Privacy Policy and Google’s Privacy Policy for their practices. Apple separately handles App Store transactions, device backups, and optional system diagnostics under Apple’s privacy policies.

Changes

We will update this page and its effective date if these practices change. New uses of protected device capabilities will require the applicable system permission, and App Store privacy disclosures will be updated to reflect the app’s practices.
